Blues For All
This blues is the perfect closer for honor jazz bands or district concerts, featuring both a high school and middle school jazz band performing together. Each ensemble has its own shout section and separate solo opportunities with a combined head. The melody helps teach guide tone lines by beginning each measure with the guide tone, while the middle school bridge is based on the blues scale. This tune is ideal for young ensembles.
La Vie en Rose
This arrangement of "La Vie En Rose" features a vocalist accompanied by a big band. Vocal parts are available in either the original French or English lyrics. The piece opens with a rubato introduction between piano and vocals, then transitions into a comfortable swing feel. The featured soloist is Tenor Saxophone I, and the ensemble shout highlights the trombone section before leading into an acappella horn shout. This arrangement is sure to bring down the house at your next concert.
Solitude
This arrangement of Duke Ellington's "Solitude" is written for a college-level big band. It opens with the saxophone section doubling on clarinet, bass clarinet, and flute, and the trumpet section doubling on flugelhorn. Featured soloists include baritone saxophone and upright bass. The ballad concludes with a 12/8 shuffle feel.
